UPMC Mercy Hospital IT Closet Upgrades

  • Project: IT Closet Upgrades
  • Owner: UPMC
  • Location: Pittsburgh, PA
  • Architect: CJL Engineering

This project involved a data closet upgrade that encompassed the entire campus. Over forty existing IT closets across nine buildings were renovated, including new electrical and HVAC provisions to service the new tele/data equipment. At the same time, ceilings were removed and walls were reconfigured to meet updated code requirements. Additional work included renovating new and old bathrooms to make space for new tele/data rooms. New bathrooms were added, and phased temporarily and integrated permanently in order to minimize interruption to patients, guests, and staff. This was a multi-phased project. Each room presented its own unique challenges depending on the location in the hospital, adjacent departments and prior use. Each space had its own safety plan, egress and ingress of materials and workers, coordination of temporary shut downs to utilities and scope of work to be done. Level 4 infection control risk assessment (ICRA) was used throughout. Constant communication between the affected hospital employees, facilities management department and Landau was imperative.
