Wheeling Hospital Continuous Care Center

Marks-Landau Construction, a wholly owned subsidiary of Landau Building Company, is pleased to announce the completion of the $23.1 million Wheeling Hospital Continuous Care Center in Wheeling, WV.

The new 106,330 SF, three-story nursing facility replaces the smaller care center that was adjacent to the hospital.  The building consists of 144 private resident rooms, country kitchens with restaurant-style dining areas on each floor, family/patient lounge areas with televisions and fireplaces, chapel, activity rooms, therapy gym, bathing spa, clinical support spaces, hair salon, and a commercial kitchen that supplies the building’s food service venues. Because of its location on the hilltop behind the hospital, many rooms offer beautiful views of the West Virginia mountains. read more

Maintaining a Proactive Culture

As general contractors, it is our job to have a proactive culture with regards to safety on the job site, remembering always that the well-being of everyone involved in the project is our primary responsibility.

An example of this occurred recently at The Waldorf School in Bloomfield, a city-designated historic landmark from the late 1800s that was converted into a school/daycare facility. Landau was hired to do renovations which included the removal of a three-story brick chimney. Before construction began, the local EMS was invited to tour the site in order to become familiar with the building and the layout.  By touring the facility, the local fire department and EMS services became familiar with the site which enabled them to develop a plan on how to reach employees quickly and what equipment they would need on hand. read more

LBC Golf Outing

Here at Landau, we have been very fortunate to work with wonderful clients, architects, and subcontractors. Our work at Allegheny Country Club, winner of the 2016 MBA Best in Craftsmanship Award, was a challenging but rewarding process, and the club recently allowed us to plan a golf outing on their prestigious course. All donations, raffle proceeds, and 50/50 proceeds benefited the Passavant Hospital Foundation. It was a great way to say thank you, especially to those who worked so hard at the club, while donating to a wonderful local organization. See all the pictures from the event on our Facebook page. The afternoon began with a light lunch and a shotgun start at 1:30pm. Thanks to the impeccable organization of the country club, the entire afternoon ran smoothly, providing the guests with beverages and snacks throughout the course. The event was organized as a shamble, using the best drive after teeing off,  Heavy hors d’oeuvres and cocktails were served afterwards, and the Passavant Hospital Foundation’s Anthony Savannah and Fay Morgan were present to thank everyone for their generosity and present the awards for the shamble.  We want to thank Allegheny Country Club for their guidance and organization throughout each step of the event, from planning to execution, which allowed the event to run seamlessly. A special thank you to First National Bank, M&J Electrical Contracting, and T.A.Robinson Asphalt Paving Inc. for generously sponsoring the food, bar, and on-course beverages.

2017 Evening of Excellence

We are thrilled to announce that our project at Allegheny Country Club won the 2016 MBA Best in Craftsmanship Award!

We want to thank Justin Kolanz, John Means, and Bill Paul from Allegheny Country Club, as well as Dave Urbansky and Jim Wallis from Perspectus Architecture for your patience and design ideas throughout construction. Of course, the project could never have been successful without Superintendent Emory Lukacs and Project Manager Andrew Marsic, both of whom displayed extraordinary dedication and perseverance throughout the renovations. It felt like every day presented a new challenge for the team, but it was handled efficiently and professionally. A special thank you to Wayne Crouse, Renick Brothers, and Sargent Electric for going above and beyond, always willing to lend a hand and offer their own ideas to make the construction process more efficient. Our team really made this a personal effort, which truly made it a success. read more

2016 MBA Awards

We would like to announce that our renovation project at Allegheny Country Club is a finalist for the MBA Best in Craftsmanship Award! The basement level in the main clubhouse was demolished and transformed into a new fitness area, Pro Shop, golf bag storage/repair area, and wine cellar/tasting room. A new staircase that matches the existing stairs was installed from the first floor receptionist area to the the basement level. Extensive mechanical, electrical, and plumbing upgrades, replacements, and relocations were also included.  The project was designed to modernize the club while maintaining the original 1902 design, and extra attention focused on the finishes matching the existing club as closely as possible. In doing so, the transformation of the space is truly remarkable and flows with the original designs beautifully. read more
